BANK HOLIDAY AUGUST – DALE WEEKEND!
26 – 29 August 2016
Dale was buzzing over August Bank Holiday weekend with a RNLI Educational Fundraising Fete on the Saturday which was organised by Hakin Point RNLI Branch (Milford Haven) and Sian Mathias & Simon Vickers from the Griffin Inn in Dale.
The community rallied together along with Hakin Point RNLI Branch volunteers to host visitors from across Pembrokeshire with their best fundraising event yet! There was a fabulous turnout for what was a fantastic awareness and fundraising day for the Royal National Lifeboat Institution, raising an overwhelming £3,022.10!
Visitors were treated to educational talks about the RNLI from lifeguards, stalls, cakes, bouncy castle, BBQ & Seafood paella, fete games, crabbing competition, ferret racing, live music from Rosey Cale, Garry Wale, Shooting Counters and an amazing raffle which were on offer to everyone who came to support the lifeboat.
There were many highlights throughout the day but Angle Life Boat stole the show when they arrived to a crowded pontoon for a couple of hours so that the public could look around it. The lifeboat crew were impressed with the turnout as they showed approximately 260 people around the boat.
Sian Mathias (event organiser) commented,
” Living and holidaying by the sea, it’s so important to raise awareness of potential dangers of the sea and to remind people to keep themselves as safe as possible.
The event is a great opportunity to bring the community and visitors together to raise awareness of the RNLI Volunteer Life Boat Crews but also the RNLI Life Guard service, whilst offering a fun day for all the family to enjoy and raise funds for this vital charity that saves lives at sea.
Sincere thanks to the local businesses who sponsored the event – The Herald, Pembrokeshire Building & Plumbing Suppliers, Evans & Evans Brewery, Bookers, Carlsberg, Celtic Wines, Dash Shellfish, Capeston Organic Poultry, John James Butchers, Pembrokeshire Paints, MG Pest Control, Dale Fort Field Studies Centre, Boat House Café (Dale), Judith Roach Phoenix Trading, Rosey Cale & Garry Wale
We were overwhelmed with the generous donations received for the raffle which alone raised £1,200. Thank you to Bluestone, Monk Haven Manor B&B, Dale Sailing, Milford Haven Port Authority, The Griffin Inn, Point Farm Campsite (Dale), Vaughans Electrical Store, Nic Ford Photography, Boots, Natwest, Ali Smith Holistic Therapy, Tesco (Milford Haven), Heatherton, Pembroke Castle, Flowers & Favors, Vincent Davies, Georgie Gainfort & St Brides Bay Clothing.
We would also like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to the superb team of volunteers, including Milford Tigers Swimming Club, who gave up their time to help on the day in aid of the RNLI and to all who came to support the day, raising £3,022.10 is a huge achievement.
Special thanks to the lifeguards who came to the event and Lewis Creese (Coxswain) for bringing the Angle lifeboat and crew over to Dale pontoon.
We are thrilled as the event was extremely well supported and it really is overwhelming how much support we had this year, we are now looking forward to next year’s event!”
